Twelve-year-old Owen sees an advert for a new TV show, The Pink Opaque, which airs late on a Saturday night when he is supposed to be in bed. He becomes obsessed with the series, and forges a tentative friendship with older student Maddy. As Owen gets older, he begins to question the blurred line separating reality from fiction.
