By Helen Fear

Christmas TV across the BBC is ALWAYS dependable, and 2024 will be no exception, with gifts in the form of Outnumbered, Strike, and the last ever Gavin & Stacey.

The channel has released its Christmas 2024 TV shows and they promise the "unmissable line-up" will "bring the festive spirit to the UK".

And they are not wrong. Some of the highlights include the premiere of Wallace & Gromit's new feature length adventure.

Here's everything you need to know about the Christmas TV going out across the BBC and iPlayer in 2024...

Christmas TV on BBC in 2024: Wallace & Gromit

Vengeance Most Fowl is the latest Wallace & Gromit film to land over the festive period. It's the first new film since the 2008 BAFTA-winning and Oscar nominated A Matter of Loaf and Death from Aardman.

The BBC tells us: "Making their long-awaited return with a brand new feature-length adventure, Wallace and his pre-programmed smart gnome Norbot are the main suspects after a recent crime wave of stolen garden goods from across the region.

"While Wallace proclaims his innocence, it's up to Gromit once again to battle sinister forces, or Wallace will never invent again!"

Gavin & Stacey The Finale

In 2019's Christmas special, fans of Gavin & Stacey saw Nessa get down on one knee to propose to Smithy, after declaring her love for him.

That was five years ago, and a lot has happened since then! The Gavin & Stacey finale brings Ruth Jones and James Corden together for the last time as Nessa and Smithy.

Of course, the cast of the returning Barry-set comedy will also include Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, and Rob Brydon.

There's also an accompanying documentary which tells the story of the British sitcom as it comes to an end after 17 years.

Christmas TV on BBC in 2024: Outnumbered special

The Brockman family are back in the Outnumbered Christmas Special 2024. The last time we saw them was in December 2016 for a festive episode. Of course, those of you who watched Children in Need this year will have seen them reunite for a special sketch to raise money for the charity.

The Outnumbered Christmas Special 2024 will "follow the chaos in the downsized home of Pete and Sue Brockman, as they grapple with the challenges of parenting kids who are now adults, with their own lives to lead".

Is Doctor Who on Christmas Day?

Long-running sci-fi series Doctor Who returns on Christmas Day, with a festive episode entitled Joy To The World.

Actor Ncuti Gatwa reprises his role as the Doctor, while Derry Girls' Nicola Coughlan joins the cast as Joy. She is reportedly the Doctor's one-off companion.

Doctor Who episode Joy to the World was written by former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat.

Moffat previously teased the plot to BBC South East, saying: "Imagine in the far, far future that a hotel chain got hold of the idea of time travel. What's the first thing a hotel chain would do if they had time travel? They'd realise they had an opportunity to sell all the unsold nights in their own hotels in history."

Tiddler is the latest animation adapted for the BBC from the hugely successful Julia Donaldson picture book of the same name.

The new magical animation - from the UK's number one picture book creators Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler - tells the story of a little fish with a big imagination... He gets lost in the deep wide ocean, until he's saved by his own storytelling.

Tiddler is voiced by an all-star cast including Hannah Waddingham as the narrator, Lolly Adefope as Miss Skate, and Jayde Adams as Plaice. Rob Brydon also appears.

Strike - The Ink Black Hart

Strike – The Ink Black Heart sees Tom Burke and Holiday Grainger return in the hit crime series based on J.K. Rowling's best-selling novels (writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith).

It's the sixth series adapted from the popular novels. Strike - The Ink Black Heart is based on the book of the same name. The series begins shortly after Troubled Blood ends.

The murder mystery follows private detective Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke) and his business partner Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger) who are drawn into a complex case involving a murdered cartoon co-creator.

The BBC synopsis begins by saying: "When frantic, desperate Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn't know quite what to make of the situation.

"The co-creator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie's true identity."

When Edie subsequently turns up murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart, Robin and Cormoran Strike become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie's true identity...

Abi Morgan's hit legal drama The Split also returns with a two-part special set over one sun-soaked weekend in Barcelona.

In The Split: Barcelona, actor Toby Stephens joins the cast as "eligible" family lawyer Archie Moore. Archie could well be a new love interest for Hannah - or either of her sisters, to be fair.

Fans will know that series 3 ended with Hannah and Nathan agreeing to part for good - sob! - after 20 years together. They agreed to navigate their way through a "good divorce". The new two-parter catches up with them two years later.

The BBC told us: "Hit legal drama The Split is set to return to BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this year in a Spanish extravaganza set over one sun-soaked weekend."

If it's some winter sun you're after, then the annual Christmas Special of Death in Paradise will deliver. The episode is likely to air on Boxing Day.

The new DI arrives on the idyllic island of Saint Marie, after travelling there from his home in London. But, while assisting with a case following a short trip, the team learn that Mervin may have an ulterior motive for being on Saint Marie...

Don will be the show's fifth leading man, following in the footsteps of Ben Miller, Kris Marshall, Ardal O'Hanlon, and Ralf Little.

There are also two festive cases of Beyond Paradise over the Christmas period.

There is also a "thrilling" new Casualty Christmas special. The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special is back, too. This year, comedian Josh Widdicombe, drag queen Tayce, podcaster Vogue Williams, Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, actress Tamzin Outhwaite, and racing driver Billy Monger all take part.
