Read on to find out everything we know about an Unforgotten series 7.
***Warning: spoilers from Unforgotten series 6 ahead, including who killed Gerry Cooper***

Is there a series 7 of Unforgotten?
ITV has not yet confirmed a series 7 of Unforgotten, and won't until series 6 has aired. This is standard practice with broadcasters, who often like to wait and see how the current series is received before making an announcement.
However, I'd bet on my favourite child that the show will be back. If it ain't broke, why fix it? Frankly, ITV would be bonkers not to recommission Unforgotten for a series 7.
Series 6 is, in my opinion, one of the best ever. Forget the boring naysayers who have complained about it being "too woke". Writer Chris Lang has always tackled important issues in his dramas, including immigration, domestic abuse, and the rise of the right wing.
Unforgotten series 6 was spot-on. And left plenty of loose ends for a possible series 7...
Why there needs to be a series 7 of Unforgotten...
Although the mystery of Gerry Cooper's death was solved, there's still plenty to unpick in Jess and Sunny's personal lives...
DCI Jess James (Sinéad Keenan) finally split up with her cheating husband after discovering the full extent of his indiscretions - not least sleeping with her own sister. Eeeewwwww.
So we need to see life after separation for Jess, and maybe even a new love interest along the line.
Meanwhile, DI Sunil 'Sunny' Khan grew close to pathologist Dr Leanne Balcombe in series 6. After a flirty date, they kissed. However, Leanne later admitted she had something in her past that Sunny needed to know.
She admitted that she had been in a very unhappy marriage when she was younger, and that she had walked out on her husband and child. Of course, at the end of the series, the lovely Sunny told her that he wasn't put off by her revelation and that everyone has their secrets.
So Unforgotten series 7 would need to explore Sunny and Leanne's blossoming new relationship. Could cold case detective Sunny even help Leanne find her estranged child?

Unforgotten series 6 recap and ending explained
Series 6 saw Sunny and Jess delve into another unresolved crime- the murder of Gerry Cooper, whose body was discovered on Whitney Marsh. The prime suspects were his wife Juliet, former employee Marty, translator Asif, and former fling Melinda Ricci.
All had a bloody good motive for seeing him dead. Turns out Gerry was an abusive husband, an unfair employee, and generally a nasty piece of work. However, the ending revealed that it was his daughter Taylor Cooper, who had accidentally killed him while trying to protect his mum from another beating.
- Juliet confessed to killing her abusive husband during a row. However, when her story didn't quite add up, Sunny and Jess realised she was protecting her daughter. Taylor had accidentally stabbed her dad with a kitchen knife as he beat her mum. She had no idea that the wound - at the top of his leg - had caused his death. Juliet had kept the truth from her. The truth subsequently came out, but the Crown Prosecution Service decided it was not in the public interest to prosecute.
- Autistic former employee Marty also had reason to hate Gerry. He did not give him the furlough money he had been entitled to during the Covid pandemic. Tragically, anti-vaxxer Gerry had also warned Marty off the Covid vaccine. Advice that ultimately led to the death of Marty's dad, who died of Covid.
- Translator Asif had had a fight with Gerry in the days leading to his death. He was furious at the way Gerry treated the asylum seekers who rented his flats. Tragically, Gerry's failure to safe check the housing meant that a little boy who Asif was fond of died unnecessarily of a fungal infection caused by damp.
- Lastly, Gerry's former fling Melinda Ricci had also been on the receiving end of his fists. She became pregnant with his baby, but made the decision to abort it. Gerry then blackmailed Melinda for money, as he knew she would not want to truth about her abortion to come to life.
